|The torch lighting ceremony for the 2012 Olympics at the ruins of the temple of Zeus in Olympia, Greece|
When the modern Olympics was first being formulated in the late nineteenth century, it was based on the
philosophy of Olympism. Pierre de Coubertin, the creator of Olympism, meant for it to be a something of revival of the religion of the ancient Greeks. However, his emphasis was on human excellence inspired by the example of the gods, rather than devotion to the gods themselves.
The first essential characteristics of ancient and of modern Olympism is that of being a religion. By chiseling his body with exercise as a sculptor chisels a statue the athlete of antiquity was “honoring the gods.” In doing likewise the modern athlete exalts his country, his race, his flag. I therefore think I was right to recreate from the outset, around the renewed Olympism, a religious sentiment transformed and widened by the Internationalism and Democracy which distinguish the present age, but still the same as that which led the young Greeks, ambitious for the triumph of their muscles, to the foot of the altar of Zeus. [1, p 66 , emphasis is mine]
At first glance, Coubertin seems to have been a sincere man. He was a classical scholar and teacher with a romantic vision of how ancient Greece could inspire the modern world. He was a patriot who was trying to help his country overcome the humiliation of France in the Franco-Prussian war with more intense physical training in the nation’s schools. He had seen with his own eyes what rugby and physical education were doing for the England and the domination of the British Empire. Just as he says himself, sports was to be a new religion.

Sports in English Ordinal = 107 (19+16+15+18+20+19)

While all these things may be true, Coubertin’s ideal was based on maintaining a hierarchical and elitist social order with the “little republic of sport” setting the example. In Olympism, the team is like a society where everyone involved is compelled to both collaborate and compete with each other. Inequality is assumed and cultivated throughout the organization. This “jockeying for position” is a necessary part of life, but as a religion Olympism is not what the Greeks actually practiced.
|Orestes Pursued by the Furies,
The Greeks first created Tragedy, which is based on the realization of the troublesome contradictions in human nature, and the fragility of civilization. In the final analysis, Fate and Nature are more powerful than human excellence. The Greeks believed that even the gods are subject to Fate. They portrayed their ruler-gods Zeus, Kronos and Ouranos as being constantly aware of that fact.
None of this made the ancient Greeks any less competitive, but the constant reminder of “thou art only a man” is a far cry from the bland platitudes of Olympism. It’s a another propaganda front for world government.
While one could argue that Coubertin may have been trying to divert the will to power in human nature to the peaceful diversions of sports, his own words above reveal the ultimate purpose is Internationalism, or global government. The 21st century globalists who are working toward that goal are not waiting on Olympism to finish the job. Far from it.

In a post earlier this week, I noted that the 110 years between the 1906 Olympics in Athens, Greece and the Rio Olympics matches the gematria of both cities very closely and that the word “president” also adds up to 110.

The original Olympic Games were held in 776, B.C. in Olympia, Greece. The games were part of a religious festival in honor of Zeus, the king and patriarch of the gods. The legends say that Hercules was the founder of the original Olympic Games in 776, B.C. Herakles or Heracles is his original Greek name spelled out in English. There are two acceptable variations
Tradition is very clear on the matter. Hercules initiated the games in honor of his father Zeus. He laid out the area for the stadion for the foot races. The original running contests are still around as track and field, in today’s’ Olympics.
Heracles established the famous four-yearly Olympic Festival and Games in honour of his father Zeus. Having measured a precinct for Zeus and fenced off the Sacred Grove, he stepped out the stadium, named a neighbouring hillock “the Hill of Cronus“, and raised six altars to the Olympian gods: one for every pair of them… Being much plagued by flies on this occasion, he offered a sacrifice to Zeus the Averter of Flies, who sent them buzzing across the Alpheius River (Robert Graves – The Greek Myths).

Olympia is the most well-known of Zeus’ temple with its famous statue of the god by Phidias, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. However, the oldest oracle of Zeus was located in Epirus at Dodona, dating back to about 1900 B.C.

Although the fire ritual and Olympic flame had been part of the ancient festival, the first torch relay occurred at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. The torch relay is preceded by a modern reenactment of the fire ceremony in honor of the gods. The Nazis were openly practicing neo-pagan rituals at rallies like Nuremberg and the torch relay was no exception. This practice continues to be an integral part of today’s Olympic games.

Hesiod was the ancient Greek poet who wrote Works and Days and Theogony, works that directly influenced Olympism. He retold the myths of the Golden Age and its return. The myth of the Thousand Year Reich under Hitler was clearly influenced by the stories of Hesiod. The idea of awarding athletes gold, silver and bronze medals is taken from Works and Days. The gold medal stands for the Golden Age, silver for the Silver Age, Bronze and then our age, the Iron Age. Hesiod portrayed this present age of man as the most devolved from the original plan of Kronos, Zeus’ father and ruler of the Golden Age. I don’t have time to get into all the metals but here’s a look at the links to gold.

As I was saying earlier, Hesiod’s poetry about the Golden Age was misappropriated by the Nazis in their dream of a Thousand-year Reich. Another influence on Nazi ideology was their misreading of Plato’s Republic. In that work, Plato and his friends argue about the nature of man and the best form of government for a city-state. They based their rule on an extremely authoritarian interpretation of Plato’s work.

A society that runs on myths and the money power of gold needs pageantry and spectacle. It also needs an organization “behind the scenes” to orchestrate affairs properly. The ancient Olympics were no different. These religious centers were also financial centers, or in another word, treasuries or banks. That’s what the original meaning for treasury was.
Over time, cities, noble families and illustrious rulers had made huge donations of gold, silver and artworks to the temples like those in Olympia. These temples were brimming with the riches of Greece, which originally was as an act of pious devotion. The Olympic games and others were a huge draw for the temples.Inevitably the practice of temple money lending arose and the original sports racket was born.
Racket in English Ordinal = 58 (18+1+3+11+5+20)
Temple-based moneylending had long been the way of the ancient Near East. By the time the Olympics were established in 776 BC, the power of the Babylonian money lenders and Phoenician merchants had been well-established in the city-states of Greece.
by 933 B.C., agencies for Babylonian imperialism were once again well established, in Greece,..considering those favourable conditions existing in Greece at that time, the international money power of that day, in reality was as blind a force to its own needs and purposes as it is today. (The Babylonian Woe, David Astle)
In the 900’s B.C., the Assyrians were invading from the east. This forced the Aramaic-speaking mariners of Phoenicia and everybody else who could leave, out of the area. The money changers, ship builders and merchant princes first migrated to the Greek islands of Delos and Kos to begin operations. The other cities of Greece began their struggle with the moneyed power that Astle writes of. I’ve linked it in the quote above.
The construction of the stadion and other structures at Olympia and the financing of the ancient games must have required large amounts of capital, organization and labor, just as it does today. A focused combination of people had to come together to make it all work. When it first began in 776 B.C. the Olympic festival appears to have been a joint venture.
The Greek aristocrats provided the athletic talent, drew the crowds, and performed the religious rituals. They probably got a decent cut of the action. The foreign money changers were probably the only source of funding for such an enterprise at that primitive stage of development in Greece. The gold offerings that had been piling up in the temple of Zeus probably counted as the collateral for the whole enterprise. As Astle explains, the Babylonian money lenders had learned before, that they could make their fortunes by lending credit without taking the gold anywhere. It could stay in the temple, safe and sound.
Athletes came from all over Greece to take part. Coubertin was at least correct about the spiritual aspect of the Olympics in this respect. The will to persist and the ability to endure all with calmness, toughness and courage were all worthy offering to the gods. That’s what earliest Greeks called arete. It was thought as a holistic excellence that encompassed physical strength, prowess, courage, intellect and moral virtue.
In today’s world we might consider some who has an exceptional desire to win at the Olympics as having “gold fever.” It’s not exactly arete, but there seems to be the modern substitute for the original idea.
The gematria of arete and gold fever also matches up with date numerology of the opening of the 2016 Rio games on August 5th..

In Coubertin’s Olympism, he used the ancient Greek word eutrapelia to describe the practice of arete among the ancient athletes as an act of devotion to the gods. He hoped to inspire modern athletes to do the same, as it had been in 776 B.C.
